So after two kids, sixteen years and lots inbetween we had a family vacation! First of all I will say that when me and Jim used to date (he was in the USMC and I was still in school) we would write each other long lengthy dreamy letters about what we wanted in life. We used to always say we’d have a cabin in the mountains and a golden retriever named ‘Sundance’. Well, the dog came……but we named him ‘Jackson’ instead. (it just fit better!) but Sundance still had a special sentiment with us. We started checking out online cabins and came across ‘Sundance’ and we were sold. The puzzle piece FINALLY came together!
This is me and Jim together. I rarely have any photographs of myself. I would take pictures of my feet at certain locations to prove that I was there. Thanks to Taylor for taking it.
This is kind of a collage or compillation of some things we saw. It was such a nice trip. I think the weather was 50s in the evening and then 70s during the day. Heaven. Lake Lure is where ‘Dirty Dancing’ was filmed. The funny part of this collage is the newspaper. The headline is that Western North Carolina is in a severe drought, and we had rain every day but one day while we were there. We’d never have known it.
This is my entire fam (without my beloved dog, who stayed at the doggie hotel) Taylor (L) Jim (middle) and Hunter (R). Let me summarize personalities: Taylor is very sweet and good hearted. When she was younger, Jim and I thought her eyes were white b/c she rolled her eyes so often, that white is all we would see. But we roughed her up a bit and she has snapped outta it, and now she is pleasant to be around. Jim is a quiet and rugged kind of guy. We will sit in the car for hours without him saying a word. I kind of wished he was more talkative b/c I am, and it’s not really fun talking to myself too often but that’s just him (after so many years you get used to it)….Now, Hunter on the other hand is the CLOWN of the family. It’s so hard to yell at him or discipline him at times b/c he keeps me laughing most of the time. He has a funny personality and takes NOTHING seriously! Would be interesting to see what they would say about summarizing me……..hmmmm
And just b/c Jim makes such a big deal about it. I HAD to include this photo. He wears a size 15 shoe. So this photo really minimizes don’t ya think?
And because I thought it was cool, and haven’t seen any around here………this old gas pump. Hopefully one day, this will be a dinosaur. Hopefully we can find new ways to fuel the world.
We really had fun. We played cherades, football and frisbee in the yard of the cabin. We really bonded, and went out everyday to explore. We saw Lake Lure and shopped at Earth Fare on Saturday. Sunday we went to a State Park and saw some water falls and did some serious hiking. Monday we went White Water Rafting and took an hour bus ride through the mountain (that’s pretty scary!). Tuesday we went to Chimney Rock and I must admit- the elevation there is like 2800′, and I’m terrified of heights, so the entire time I’m like on pins and needles. I braved it all for the kids. Each night brought us back to the cabin for games, and family time. I so enjoyed my evening Pinot Noir, grilling and the nothing ness that surrounded me. The peace and love that having a family gives us. We found again.
