ThE dOg is H-Y-P-E-R !!

I’ve been sitting here watching the puppy go about 400 mph, slide on the wood floors into something *preferrably with a liquid on top of it* and be completely oblivious that this shouldn’t be normal. Then. Rinse and Repeat. I am shoving ‘chewies’ at her hoping it pacifies the lucipher that lurks deep within! to NO AVAIL!

I’m just going to overview a few things going on in my life right now. Just to catch up with me. Maybe I just have been so busy that I need to see it in print to even put into context everything that’s been going on. This may seem like boasting but I’m a little excited about this so I want to share. Some of you may or may not know that the hb does some acting. He has done several small independent films and some voice over work.  He is currently working on a Western called ‘Longshot’ and has written a majority of the screen play as well.  Well, they pulled some major strings and got David Carradine *(Kill Bill) to fly in to be in the movie with Jim. We are filming this weekend and I will be doing still photography so I should have some pics soon. I know that may be small beans to some but for us it’s pretty exciting. I’m excited for Jim and the all the work he has put into this. Then seeing it all work out for him.  It sure does shake up redundancy. I guess this goes hand in hand with our completely unconventional life.

And I want to mention Bridal sessions. I have a love/hate relationship with bridal sessions. I love them because I get to spend another day with my bride getting to know her and do what i like doing best: shooting.  I love that she gets to do a run through of how the dress fits and what needs altered, to get her hair done to see how it will look – in essence, a great run through so that the wedding day is comfortable and preparations are perfect. That’s a plus. Many times we have determined hairstyles aren’t exactly what she had envisioned and the alterations for the dress were quite uncomfortable when in the dress more than 30 minutes. But on the other hand, I get these images and I’m GIDDY to play with them and get them posted but I CAN’T! Because 9 times out of 10 Mr. doesn’t know what she looks like and it’s not my job to blow that for him or her. Especially when brides do some funky, unique and off the wall stuff. I’m just itching to showcase it.  You girls know exactly who I’m talking about! So the photographer in me finds bridals the hardest b/c I am doing cartwheels to show them off!!

I need an assistant. I haven’t been able to update my website in FOREVER!!  I am putting feelers out there for a part time assistant.  I need someone to help me with various tasks on the computer and to help shoot as well. I am going to compile a list of what I need and will post that soon. Examples of what I need without a detailed list:  editing/ website updates/ marketing/ data entry.. shooting at weddings. Send me an email.

Had a fun girls weekend in Myrtle Beach this past weekend.  5 female photographers all got together and did some boudoirs. We stayed in a pretty posh place on the 23rd floor,  that my friends is pretty high UP! That could be my fear of heights talking though.. I just tried not to look out too often. You know you’re in trouble when riding the elevator to your room, your ears start popping. You might be afraid of heights IF…

Ok, anyway.

We played with light. Did some really cool double exposure type shots that Stacy took, so I don’t have them on here but they are on my facebook page under my tagged photos. Cool stuff. We must be nerds. Self acclaimed.  And since I just got my Nikon they coerced me into just using my Nikon and learning it. And I didn’t do too bad of a job.

And I have a great bridal session I’d love to share but can’t.  I also have a couple engagement sessions and a few more boudoir so I’ll be back. To ramble on and on…….

Until next time

xoxoxo

Natalie - I have always questioned the ability of a normal human being to pull off the body stocking.

But WOW

She is HAWT!

Sometime they fall in love, and sometimes you do too.

With the people you shoot.

Meet Deborah and Craig *and the crew*. I technically was the second shooter for the wedding. That allowed for more creativity than usual. I like to play and remember my love for just people and photography. Back to the Basics.

We were married at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Which is known for it’s cherry red, exploding doors that happen to just beg for photographs.

Cocktail Hour was Robert Lange Studios on King St. Which was a very vibrant, energetic studio. If you get a chance to go check out his work, it’s really cool

Reception was at McGrady’s. With it’s raw textures and artistic paintings it was really amazing. I’ve lived in Charleston for a long time now and had no idea that McGrady’s was the treasure trove it turned out to be.

We worked with Hannah Alexander, who is a wedding planner and oversaw the finite details so that it all came together beautifully. Great Job. It was Amazing!

I covered the guys. Which I know can be awkward as most fellas don’t really love to get their pics taken but these guys were so fun.  I kept em moving and I know several times they prob thought I was nuts but they obliged none the less.

This would be one of those times they were like…..’WHAT do you want us to do?’ Now, you get it. Right guys?

And although we were expecting rain, which I was kind of happily anticipating.. there wasn’t much water for  reflections.. so we found a fire station near us and they had recently washed their fire trucks – so we had a PUDDLE.. YAY puddles! The guys no longer thought I was loco at this point, they left it up the fire fighters to think I was I should be committed.

And though I didn’t get to do get ready pics of the girls I don’t want to leave Deborah out. She radiated.

I love her red hair. And she had the GREATEST, most animated expressions. Her face just lit up when she laughed. Her bouquet was beautiful.

We used these red doors as much as possible.  Couldn’t get enough of them.

Moody. Dramatic. Love this one.

I love this one too.

Isn’t that laugh SERIOUSLY contagious? I mean. I need to laugh just seeing her expression.

And I’ve gotten a few emails from Deb and Craig’s party to see some of the photos. So I hope I filled the void of getting some posted.

So.. that’s it for now. I enjoyed working with everyone and meeting new friends. Deborah and Craig. Thank you for your sincere kindness. I wish you all the blessings possible. xoxoxo

Until Next Time.

jess - these are awesome. that reflection shot is sweeeet! great job

Guess who’s back, Guess who’s back, shady’s back.. call a friend

Oh.. sorry. I’m singing aloud again. I get ahead of myself. And since I sing around the house, in the shower, in the car and while my Ipod is on full blast without noticing anyone is around. I figured this is no different. Right? The real me.    I sing. I dance. I’m goofy. I’m stupid. So that’s the song that was in my head.

I will post some pictures. Simmer down. I’ve also got some NEWS! squeal! I have switched from Canon to Nikon. This is a big deal as I’ve spent thousands. Gasp! of benjamins on my quip. So I essentially am starting over. Which is tough.  A friend of mine let me borrow her Nikon and the rest was history. So.. I am cleaning house. Any hobbyists/amateurs or other photographers intersted – here is what I have:

24-70mm/2.8 L series USM *Excellent condition* approx 2 yrs old                                        $900

Battery Grip for the Canon 5D *Couple scratches, but other than aesthetics works perfect*  $100

Adobe CS2 Mac version educational version                                                                            $150

Adobe Lightroom 1.0                                                                                                                $75

I am still deliberating on selling my fisheye 15mm/2.8 (less than 200 shutter release)         $550

and my 16-35mm/2.8 that I JUST bought in January. (have maybe 60 S R’s)                         $1400

Email me if you are interested. tommehilton@gmail.com (well, just in case you didn’t know!)  I still have a Canon back up camera that I use as my 2nd camera so I don’t have to get rid of everything but I’d like to let someone else use what I very rarely will instead.

And we have an addition. STELLA. She is a gift from Jim. I have always wanted him to get me an animal as I always thought that was the cutest gift of affection. Well, she is CUTE and BAD! So, be careful what you ask for. She is a biter. A chewer. Who really enjoys peeing on my carpets! She is about 9 wks old so I think we are still in the young stages and I can only hope the bad traits she grows out of. x fingers.

Ok, don’t be fooled. Turn off your cute radar! She is feisty and her teeth are like little razors!

Ok, enuf about my life. Let’s get onto my recent Wedding. Rachel and Kevin. When I met Rachel she was so happy go lucky and whatever ish (then at the wedding turned into bridezilla!) he he. Just kidding. She was one of the most laid back brides EVER. I ask that my brides get dirty after a wedding – the nuptials are done and the majority of the pics are done. Let’s worry about great pics now! Right? Right.

We were at Harmon’s Tree Farm in Columbia, SC. And the place was a BUFFET of great stuffs. Rain threatened, but I secretly did my hula/rain go away dance (which if those kids that were chasing rabbits mention that girl in the back acting like a maniac, that was prob. me.) – So we got gray and some rain.. when it did come down it REALLY came down. But DUDE! We had a BENTLEY.. which Kevin’s uncle owns and told me that if any brides want it for their wedding to contact him and he will be happy to accomodate! Umm SUPERB picture opportunity. AHEM! Needless to say, Rachel was game for whatever I threw her way. Dirty, great attitude and in my opinion — great pics as a result!

One of my favs. Isn’t that car Bad ASS? that deserved a cap lock!

Hot, right? The couple isn’t so bad either.   ;)

They naturally were very cute together. Sometimes I get told that they don’t want any intervention. The couple would prefer total photojournalism. Well in my opinion, and it’s just MY opinion. I’m hands on only because not EVERYONE is animated. And I’m not saying that in a derogatory sense. The best PJ pictures are one of VERY animated, emotional couples. And some folks are naturally shyer than others and don’t feel comf showing emotions in front of their f/f and the camera. So sometimes I have to coordinate things and be hands on. IF that is something you don’t prefer, just remember that PJ is just showcasing the emotions and feelings you had so you have to wear your feelings on your sleeve for that to be successful.

These are textures that just make a photo feel moody. I like how its warm and gives mood to the photo.

I had so many old cars in the background to give a STELLAR backdrop for me. UGH! My mind was so racing at this location. I’m just grateful that Rachel was up for it all!

HE HE HE! Another old car. A DIRTY old car, right Rach? Looks awesome in pics tho.

Locations I’m not familiar with or have shot before, I go in and assess and do a quick scan of what is safe and what is capable of being photographed. Well, this yellow horse was begging for a rodeo show!

This is their cake topper! Cute, huh?

Well ok now. I hope I made up for a little lost time today. I have a wedding and a bridal this weekend and several still to edit. So see you shortly with new stuff.

xoxoxoxo

Until next time
