pf_jackson

First, we want to wish all our blog readers / viewers a Happy Halloween! Please be safe this weekend while Trunk-or-treating OR Trick-or-treating. But please, eat lots of candy. . . and brush those teeth! We don’t want tarnished smiles from all the sugar! j.

But, Before everyone drifted off into their Halloween character for the weekend, I wanted to share a cute little lion with you.

Meet Jackson.

This past weekend after our Halloween | Come play with us session, I got to photograph this beautiful curly headed Lion. Precious. Gasp. Beyond Precious!! He was so happy and had the best facial expressions! Take a look at the cute cuddly little man. His mommy and daddy wanted to take a few photos as well with him! You can tell they hold his heart! Just look at how he smiles at them.

Anyways, Tomme and I want to wish you a very Halloween, Jackson! Make sure to R-O-A-R when you go to get candy!

Come and play with us . . .

I mean really, your never too old to play dress up! Especially when it comes to Halloween!! So, this past weekend a couple friends, my sister and I (Erica) decided to do a Halloween photo shoot. Laugh. It all started one night during our regular Thursday night Grey’s Anatomy wine night — Okay, I am addicted to Grey’s . . . need I say more? — And we were discussing who was going to throw a Halloween party.  I — of course — have been DYING to have an adult dress up Halloween party. I mean, who wouldn’t! Right? So we were pondering all the things we COULD be . . . and WANTED to be . . . and then it clicked. Halloween Photo Shoot. Duh. Talk about best idea ever! And it was.

So we got out scrap paper to ‘jot’ down our ideas of what we were going to be . . .

1. Cowgirl / Country Scene / Boots

2. Wizard of Oz / Dorthy, Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Witch

3. Masquerade / Mask

4. 80′s Theme

. . . after we all agreed on these four ideas, it was off to finding / brainstorming our ‘costumes’.  So after we rummaged thru our closets and one mall shopping trip later, we were ready to go! Except one thing . . . If I was going to be in the pictures, then who was going to take them? Sigh. Tomme was gone to her niece Amanda’s Birthday party (GREAT photo shoot by the way! We will be blogging Amanda’s birthday photos soon! She R-O-C-K-E-D her 14th Birthday!) And my sister’s friend who was going to ‘fill in my spot’ decided not to come. BUT, thank goodness our friends daughter, Gracie came along to be the Witch in the Wizard of Oz . . . because after a couple minutes of camera training and directions, Gracie quickly became our new photographer! Laugh. Nah, she did not photograph us all day. However, she did photograph several sets. I would set her up for the shot and after a few clicks, she would get the perfect one! And then, we did do a few with the camera timer. Laugh. Lots of running involved on that! My sister, Jess, had to do the running on those . . . I was stuck on a hill in 5 in heels for Dorthy. There was no way I would make it down the hill in time, much less, alive!

Needless to say, the day was AWESOME! I could not have asked for better lighting, more beautiful weather and the best girls to photograph! We all had a day / night to remember! Take a look at our ROCKIN’ Halloween photo shoot!

. . . Now, the only question is, Which Costume should we wear for the Halloween Party? Hmmm . . .

If you are interested to Come and Play with Us, let us know! We would love to set up a themed photo shoot with you!

Jackson’s R-O-A-R | Tomme Hilton Gallery - [...] Come and play with us . . . [...]

Love is never over due…

… but my appreciation blog to Tomme Hilton is.  When I started working with Tomme a little over two years ago, I promised my self that every year, I would write a blog post about how much I appreciate the woman I work with and for, Tomme.  Not just so I can rant and rave about how she is an awesome photographer… duh, you already know that! wink. But to truly show you what kind of a person Tomme really is.

First off, for those of you who don’t know, Tomme was my wedding photographer. She photographed my engagement to my bridals to my wedding day… to capturing my first born and my family. She has, for sure, captured every ‘big’ moment most would die to have captured. And not to mention the QUALITY of images I have all because of her! No lie, my house is covered with her artistic photography ability.  But this isn’t about how talented she is — this blog is about a woman who is the best friend / mentor / woman I could ever ask for.

‘She is a friend of mind. She gathers me. The pieces I am, she gathers them and gives them back to me in all the right order. It’s good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind.’

You know when you find that person who just ‘gets you’. That person you can ‘pick up where you left off’. That person you can ‘say nothing but have said everything too’. Yep. That is Tomme. She is ‘that person’ to me. We balance each other out. In the last two years, Tomme has taught me a lot about life / photography / business / relationships / love / friendship / and more. I could never have chosen a better boss / partner to work with and for.  I only hope that I am the same for her — that I gather all her pieces and put them the correct order for her — that I am her ‘person’.  Thankfully, when she hired me on as an assistant, she was looking for ‘all my strong points’. Laugh. Funny cause I never really knew what they were… But, apparently it meshes perfect and we both wouldn’t have it any other way — hopefully — wink.  She’s a phenomenal friend / mentor / woman.

You know when you’ve had one of those awful days? Tomme is the person that writes you a sweet email / texts a sweet message.

You know when you feel you have pushed your self to your limits? And want more? Tomme is the person that teaches and shows you how to expand and grow.

You know when you get old and you think you don’t receive Christmas or Birthday presents anymore? Tomme is the person that remembers and gives you something anyways!

You know when you need someone to brainstorm concepts / ideas with? Tomme is the person I call / email / text to explore my thoughts.

You know when you wish you had someone who can always cover your back? Sigh. That for sure is Tomme.

You know the person that always asks you how your day was before you can ever get the words out of your mouth? Tomme. All the way.

You know how rare it is to find someone to work with and actually enjoy it, every time? I’ve got that with her.

And you know you can always pick up where you left off? We’ve got that.

I know I have tried to reiterate how much I love her to all you readers out there… And how much I appreciate her. But words can never really express my true feelings for her. She has taught me so much. And guided me to really appreciate love / family / photography / friendship.  Of course, I am not so sure about the order of those things… As they are all very important and meaningful. I could not have asked God for a better woman to be placed in my life.

I just wanted to send you some love your way, TomTom. I love you and I am so glad I get to work with you every day. I wish I could see your cute little face everyday, but I know seeing you on weekends for weddings is enough :[] j. Hugs and Kisses from me!

Cheryl & Josh

Cheryl and Josh tied the knot long before I entered their equation. They decided they would get married and hire me to do pics at a later date – so we ‘staged’ their wedding. Cheryl and Josh are originally from Myrtle Beach and decided to make an event out of coming to Chucktown and having fun with the camera with ME!! :) It was a really fun change of pace for me as well because it was nothing but TIME to take pics and set the stage accordingly. The lighting was gorgeous as was my “bride” and “groom”. Of course Josh was a little camera shy but a few minutes into it and the inner GQ came in and took over. It always amazes me how much men really like posing it up when their wives/girlfriends tell me how much they were dreading the shoot. ;) Yeah, Yeah!  For any of you on a super tight budget, I thought this was a really crafty way to get in the photos that REALLY count more inexpensively than a wedding day package.

I personally had a REALLY hard time picking photos for this blog. EVERY photo I took was A W E S O M E !! And while this is good for you,  the client, it’s an editing nightmare for me and Erica! ;) I guess I won’t say nightmare, but when you have sometimes a thousand or more images to wade through and they are all GOOD (You can’t BEAR to hit the delete button on any of them) – it gets tedious,  your eyes begin to cross,  you need more coffee refills,  your cat decides to sit on your laptop and interrupt your flow……and…..and soon you find yourself hitting your head against the wall nearest to you. Needless to say – I gave myself a high five for all the good images that came from our evening together.

Cheryl wrote up a little quip about her and Josh and this is what she wanted to share.

Josh and I crossed paths many times in our lives, We use to have a running joke that one of us was indeed following the other.  As a teenager I started working at a local restaurant and was shocked when once again Josh came walking through the door looking for a summer job. For the next two years we worked together side by side and our friendship slowly turned into more. On our first date we went to the beach and ended up staying the entire night talking about our past and what we wanted for the future. In such a short period of time we made  such a strong unbreakable bond. I felt like I truly found my best friend and soul mate that night and for the next 6 years we’ve shared our love of travel and he has encouraged me to follow my dreams of opening the business I fantasized about since childhood. On January 23rd 2010 on vacation at the beautiful 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman, Josh got down on one knee and proposed! As soon as we returned home I immediately knew Charleston was where I wanted our day to be captured. It was a place we’ve spent so many Sundays just strolling the streets and building unforgettable memories and it truly proved to be the right choice. Thank you Tomme for making photos we will cherish for a lifetime.
We wish you the best! Thank you for choosing THG, it was so memorable to meet you both and can’t wait to watch your family grow! ;) – Love, Tomme

Cindy McCarthy - Cheryl you were the most beautiful bride! I love your photos.

October 20, 2011 - 12:15 pm

Jennifer McCarthy - All the pictures are so beautiful. Congrats!

October 20, 2011 - 10:10 am

Cheryl McCarthy - Tomme, I would like to thank you again for these beautiful pictures. You went above and beyond anything I thought could ever be achieved. Our entire famnily loves them! Thank You!!!!!

Things we like – and we like to share.

I’m a purveyor of useless information. For some it’s caviar and fine cars, a nice fancy home to impress their friends. I’m a little simpler of kinds. I like good papers and sketching. Now I like these things. I never seem to make time for them, but I do like them and they are ALWAYS on my bucket list. Whenever I tell myself I want to sketch again, I think about that line in the ‘Notebook’ where Ally goes to visit Lon…

Or for some, useful … depends on what you do in your spare minutes.

I found this website that has COLORED tape. GAH!!

Little known secret – I have a fetish for stationery and all the accessories that accompany. Hence my watermark, thank you Erica!

Perhaps it stemmed from when my husband and I were in love, waiting desperately at the mailbox for his letters each day after school. He had gone into the Marines when I was still in high school-regular ole snail mail  was our only way to communicate. Can anyone fathom that today when email and text messaging is abundantly our mode of communicating?

He would tell me stories of having mail passed out in their barracks,  the letters that stood out the most ended up getting the most cat calls. It seemed to be a welcome break from the seriousness of the drill instructors ,  making sure all your corners in your bed were tucked in and exhaustion and loneliness they all encountered. While boot camp for them was a time of camaraderie, breaking them down to build them back, that one mail moment by themselves were what kept them going, kept them motivated and let them know that love was just another letter away.

Here are some of my favorite things:

Folders

Stantionery

Craft paper

Desktop Backgrounds

Coffee Mugs

Stamps

Sketch pads

Old windows

Charcoal drawings

Random… I know. But why not be random?

I want to try to provide my readers / blog viewers of my randomness more often. So, this is my ‘resolution’ — too late? — nah — my ‘resolution’ to blog more and let you into my inner self… inner random self.

x.o. ladies and gents. till next random blog.
