Lis and Gene

Happy Humpdate to all.  What a whirlwind June will have been. It’s so amazing how fast time goes by when you are busy.  I have had some amazing weddings! AMAZING. What makes a wedding Amazing? The people. The atmosphere, the flow of the day. Cake. Great shots. Time. Great shoes. Fun, Funky things to keep me from taking the same shots. Stimulation. Tequila.

Now, no joke. It’s been hot as hades – I have one coming up Saturday the forecast says it is supposed to be 99 degrees and that’s w/o the heat index. {{ smile }} – darn good thing that Charleston is a beautiful city b/c summer is hell!

So let’s talk about Lis and Gene’s wedding:

First of all vendors involved -

Cake:

Flowers:

Reception Location:

Doubletree Charleston

First of all, let me reminisce of what I remember most. Flowers – I thought her flowers looked so pretty and delicate that they belonged on a cloud with angels. I also remember the warmth of her family. Her dad was beaming every time I saw him. I remember LOTS and LOTS of smiles at this wedding. Sometimes I know people can get stressed  over the festivities –  but I think it was well known throughout what a wonderful gathering of people they love instead of worry about the minor details. There wasn’t one time that Lis wasn’t aware of it being a wonderfully great day.

They had a bag piper that led all the guests to the reception. How freaking cool is that? I mean, WOW! What a way to announce your love to the city of Charleston!

This was my favorite shot of the day.  A carriage? A bagpiper? It was such a fairytale.  I couldn’t resist this shot. And as many times as I got up and down in the carriage.. I should have quads of steel. I saw this wonderfully warm orange light peering around the buildings and knew I had to get this.

I also love this shot. This church is a great church to shoot at. It’s really gothic and has this eerie ethereal feel to it.  First Scots on Meeting Street in Charleston.

What was exceptional about Lis is she was always aware of the camera. I loved it how she peeked over at me right before walking down the aisle. How cute is this shot?

I love to second shoot and I love having second shooters to help each other out. It’s fun working with new people and seeing how they work and learning from each other. For this wedding, I had

Gwyneth Colleen  from New Hampshire come down and shoot with me. She is a really great photographer and I was really happy to have her come down for Lis’s wedding.

Gorgeous bridesmaids.

The guys were kind of in a hurry. To get to the beer.

I know you are seeing a trend… but I really like playing with light.. I love how it burst between them and highlights their silhouette. This lighting is really cool and it’s not the lighting you see run of the mill. This is hollywood glam effect.

And b/c I have a MILLION grand images. I have to keep them/you wanting more so for tonight I shall sleep.

Congrats Lis and Gene. I hope you had fun in the Dominican. You are certainly friends of mine and I wish you the best of luck. Jim told me to tell you Lis that there wasn’t one time he put the camera on you that you weren’t glistening with delight. What a thrill for us to witness! xoxo

Until next week.

La La La Lis

Spending quite a bit of time with Lis these days. We have shot together for every session we could and Lis is Soo easy to pose and photograph… sigh. She has that model quality to her. When we shoot models, models are always switching it up… moving their faces, their stances, their hands…. they are aware of all the things a camera looks for.. lighting, angles, lines, etc. Well Lis naturally would do this. She would hear the shutter and she would automatically begin to re position herself. She was really awesome..

I have been behind is editing and posting, so I am going to post her and Gene’s engagement session and she told me today that Gene has no idea about my sites and that he would never find her bridal pics. I hope she didn’t underestimate his google capabilities. ;) So I am going to include both sessions.

I have to say…. I know guys don’t really look forward to their engagement sessions and I keep that in mind when I shoot. Men don’t like looking stupid so I try to keep in the back of my mind their cool ness.. and most guys tell me afterwards they didn’t really mind the shoot b/c there wasn’t all this cheesey, fake smiling… So, check out the super cool Gene.

This statue is where Gene proposed.  I like how the angel is looking down at them… approvingly, of course!!

And now onto the bridals, which we did today…Lis wasn’t feeling great but she still looked like a million bucks.

I love the romantic grainy ness here… It was really sunnier than I had hoped for, but once in a while the sun would go in and we were ‘golden’.

And I realize this look isn’t for everyone… some will think it’s dark and dreary, but in another essence it’s dramatic and moody.. and Lis can pull off drama undoubtedly.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to get her on the ground or not. She had talked to someone at the boutique she got the gown and asked about cleaning after the shoot and they read her the riot act about ”trying” to clean it. So she was of course extremely apprehensive about getting the dress dirty.. but for being outside all day in and out of sprinkling.. that dress stayed pretty clean, I must say!

The wind was def. in our favor.

That’s a whole lottaLIS…….. she’s gorgeous and can’t wait for the big day to see how radiant she is!! xoxoxo

Way past the bedtime. Night folks.
